Aston Martin teases us with the announcement of a new V12 Speedster with just a black and white silhouette and some initial detail.
- 2 seater open cockpitV12
- Limited to 88 examples
- Estimated 2021 delivery
The car will make it’s official global debut later this year, but for now, Aston Martin Lagonda has given us a peek at what will be their 2 seat enthusiast driving machine.
V12 Speedster design
The V12 Speedster has been created by in-house bespoke service Q by Aston Martin working with the brand’s team of designers and engineers over a 12 month time frame. The new car’s design will be modern and dynamic but is also tipped to subtly nod to both Aston Martin’s 1959 DBR1 and the marque’s Centenary CC100 Speedster Concept shown in 2013.
“The 88 enthusiast drivers and collectors who secure the keys to these cars can be confident that in doing so, they are also securing an iconic new piece of Aston Martin history.”
Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group CEO, Dr Andy Palmer
V12 Speedster powertrain
Aston Martin’s 5.2-litre V12 Twin-Turbo engine will be tweaked to produce a high performance variant for the V12 Speedster and is going to generate an output of around 700 PS and 700 Nm of torque. The V12 Speedster engine is then mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission mounted towards the rear of the car.
One of the many benefits of an open cockpit car is the direct connection you get to the engine and exhaust notes and this hasn’t been lost on Aston Martin which said “The powertrain found in the Aston Martin V12 Speedster has an abundance of character, with the engine note and sound quality playing an important part in the undeniably invigorating driving experience delivered here.”
Orders and delivery
Orders for the 88 V12 Speedsters are being taken now and deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021.
