Abeking & Rasmussen still able to deliver M/Y SOARING to new owner as scheduled amidst new COVID-19 challenges.

Nestled along the banks of the Weser River in Lemwerder, Germany, lies the shipyards of Abeking & Rasmussen, a company founded in 1907 by Georg Abeking and Henry Rasmussen and known to many as the builders behind some of the most iconic superyachts currently in operation that include the likes of Cloudbreak, Aviva, Elandress and Excellence to name a few.

Adding to their growing list of superyachts comes the new M/Y SOARING, a 68 meter superyacht designed by Focus Yacht Design that was unveiled earlier this year for the first time at Lemwerder before undergoing harbor and sea trials.

Commenting on the build, Managing Director of Focus Yacht Design Thomas Mühe said, “We are very excited to see how great our concepts for interior and exterior design are coming into being. The shipyard works like clockwork and the opportunity to work on both design spheres allows an integrated and holistic approach. As a result the yacht turned out modern and timeless at the same time.”

Having completed the earlier sea trials, M/Y SOARING has now been delivered to her new Owner however under much different circumstances than expected.

Aiming to meet their scheduled due dates amidst the current challenges imposed due to COVID-19, Abeking & Rasmussen worked with their staff and tradespeople to adopt a new two-shift system to minimize human contact as much as possible and carried out extensive hygiene measures to ensure safe working conditions at all times whilst being able to complete their tasks under the new circumstances.

Initially intended to be handed over as both a formal procedure and celebration attended by family and friends of the owner and all those involved in the build process, the order of events were scaled back in order to adhere to social distancing expectations and were instead attended by only a small cohort of people.

In the meantime, SOARING can be seen and appreciated from afar by spectators and no doubt will be enjoyed by her owner (most likely to practice social distancing in comfort right now)!

M/Y SOARING will also be available in the future for charter through Zurich based yacht management and charter agent Ocean Independence.
