The delivery marks the first USA delivery of McLaren’s fastest car to date with the “Ultimate Series” hypercar strictly limited to 106 vehicles in total, with only around 30-40 being made available to the USA.

First revealed in October 2018, owners have been waiting several years for the completion of the fourth car in the McLaren Ultimate Series (the others being the Senna, P1, and F1) with further delays imposed after the COVID-19 induced factory shut-downs earlier this year.

Interestingly, although nearly 30% of the McLaren Speedtail allocations are headed for the US in the future, the iconic three-seat layout used by the McLaren Speedtail does not allow for side airbags, which are required by law in the US.

The lack of airbags and a lack of traditional side mirrors means that the Speedtail is not technically street legal. Still, it can be imported into the US and used for road use under the “Show or Display” exemption, allowing certain exotic and rare vehicles to be imported for “display” purposes.

The caveat to that is that the Show or Display registered vehicles can still be driven 2500 miles a year. Given that it has a top speed of 250mph and can accelerate from 0-186mph in 12.8 seconds, it wouldn’t be hard to chew through those miles in no time!
