British-based Gordon Murray Automotive has revealed the new T.50s Niki Lauda – a track-focused edition of the upcoming T.50, dedicated to legendary Formula 1 driver (and Gordon Murray’s friend and team-mate) Niki Lauda. It will be limited to 25 vehicles in total.

Revealed intentionally on the anniversary of Niki Lauda’s birthday, the new lightweight Gordon Murray T.50s Niki Lauda has been designed and engineered to create the ultimate on-track driving experience and commemorates Niki Lauda’s famous win in the Brabham BT46B fan car at the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix (the BT46B was a vehicle designed by Gordon Murray for the Brabham Formula 1 team that skirted the rules at the time with its unique “fan car” design).

Described by Gordon Murray as a vehicle that was “developed in parallel” to the T.50 (as opposed to an after-thought), the T.50s Niki Lauda is built around a specially developed lightweight carbon fiber monocoque and features lightweight carbon fiber panels to bring the overall weight down to 852kg.

Additional aerodynamic design changes, like the new rear mounted delta wing, have been made to create a total 1500kg of downforce and boost performance while maintaining the elegant lines of the T.50s.

“The T.50 is the ultimate road-going supercar, but I always dreamed of taking it one step further… to build a version that will deliver an on-track driving experience like no other car in history,” shared Professor Gordon Murray CBE. “When we created the McLaren F1 GTR it was developed from the F1 road car. From its inception the T.50s Niki Lauda, though, was designed in parallel with the T.50. For the T.50 our target was clear, to make the best driver’s car for the road. With the T.50s Niki Lauda it was equally clear, to make it the best driver’s car for the track. Putting it another way, we asked ourselves what would be the coolest thing to drive on track and create a track driving experience like no other car in history?”

Limited to 25 vehicles, each chassis of the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s Niki Lauda’s will be named individually after one of Gordon Murray’s fifty Grand Prix wins on different circuits worldwide. Chassis #1 has already been designated to be named after his win at Kyalami 1974 and will include a commissioned book relating specifically to that race with notes and thoughts on the race from Gordon Murray.

As part of the bespoke buying experience, new owners will be invited to a track day to ensure the chassis and aerodynamic set-up suits their personal driving style and experience. Ongoing engineering support will also be offered for various events and track-days around the world.
