Jacob & Co’s new rainbow Astronomia Fleurs de Jardin tourbillon watch brings all the butterflies to the yard and no-ones complaining.
Fresh off the back of the recent Bugatti Chiron tourbillon watch release, Manhattan-based watch-making jewelers Jacob & Co have now delivered something special for their more feminine clients, namely the Rainbow Astronomia Fleurs de Jardin watch.
Making its debut in 2014, Jacob & Co’s Astronomia triple-axis flying tourbillon movement has already been released in several variations but in 2019 was given a feminine twist in the form of the “Fleurs de Jardin” version.
Translated as “garden flowers” the timepiece is embellished with 11 tiny detailed gemstone flowers complete with a rotating 18K rose gold butterfly, but this is the first time the Fleurs de Jardin timepiece has been offered with a rainbow gradient of gemstones.
Speaking on the original concept of the Fleurs de Jardin, Jacob & Co founder Jacob Arabo said, “As we continue to attract more female customers, and more women express increased interest in high watchmaking, I decided to do something that was specifically designed for women. I envisioned something that was complicated mechanically and integrated high jewelry elements, and the Fleurs de Jardin, in development for more than a year, is the result. The structure on top—the flying tourbillon, the time display, and the frame carrying the gemstone flowers—rotates clockwise in 10 minutes, like our iconic Astronomia, but the gemstone flower-set mother of pearl dial underneath turns counter-clockwise, while the inner sapphire-set ring turns clockwise. Having everything spinning and turning makes this timepiece extremely complicated, but it is all in service of the watch’s incredible aesthetic.”
Designed to “recreate a garden on your wrist”, the rainbow edition of the Astronomia Fleurs de Jardin features 40 individual sapphires set into the 18K rose gold bezel and an additional 48 sapphires adorning the inner ring. Perched atop of the tourbillon movement is a 288-facet Jacob-cut grass-green colored tsavorite gemstone, which along with the time display and the surrounding upper-level multicolor sapphire “flowers” all rotate around the dial clockwise while at the bottom of the movement, the gemstone flowers set on a mother-of-pearl base all that rotate counter-clockwise.
Limited to 101 pieces, no prices for the Jacob & Co Rainbow Astronomia Fleurs de Jardin version have been revealed, however previous limited editions have retailed for US$360,000 and upwards.
