- The new McLaren 765LT is revealed
- Most powerful McLaren Longtail to date
- Powerplant produces 765PS
- Only 765 individually numbered cars will be produced
Revealed earlier today at 8:30am London time, host Kate Silverton and McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt proudly introduced the new long tail McLaren 765LT Super Series to the public via live stream on the marques own youtube channel.
Hailed as the next chapter in the McLaren LT story, the track focused car is the latest chapter in a story that began with the McLaren F1 GTR race car in the 1990s and since 2015 has seen road-legal LT models introduced. McLaren says it aims to underpin every LT model with the attributes of driver engagement, track-focused dynamics, minimised weight, optimised aerodynamics and increased power all of which have amplified in this latest 675LT model.
According to Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive, “The 765LT is the most accomplished and exhilarating LT model ever from McLaren Automotive” and offers “incredible performance and astonishing levels of driver engagement – the result of hundreds of detailed engineering actions undertaken to ensure the purest possible connection between driver and car.”
Speaking on the nimbleness of the new Super Series car, McLaren Automotive Vehicle Line Director Andreas Bareis commented, “The 765LT is faster, lighter and more powerful than any previous car with the LT badge and delivers almost telepathic driver engagement. The connection through the seat and feedback from the steering wheel is incredible, allowing a customer to fully exploit every aspect of the ‘Longtail’ abilities or simply take pleasure from each drive. This car is the very essence of an LT.”
Power & Performance
The fastest McLaren Longtail yet gets its power from a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 McLaren M840T engine. This powerplant puts out 765PS and 800Nm of torque and enables times of 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds; 0-100km/h (62mph) in 2.8 seconds; 0-200km/h (124mph) in 7.2 seconds.
The impressive times have also been pushed along by a heavy focus on weight reduction. It’s lighter than predecessors in the McLaren Longtail tradition, 80kg less than 720S coupé and more than 50kg below its closest competitor in comparable specification.
High-performance, lightweight materials have been incorporated throughout the car with advanced carbon fibre technologies for body components. For this reason you will not find any carpet on the floor of this beast. As well as thinner glass, the use of motorsport-style polycarbonate glazing and Formula 1-grade transmission materials, the 765LT’s full-titanium exhaust system weighs just 10.9kg which is is 40% lighter than a comparable steel system and 3.8kg less than the exhaust of a 720S.
Almost more importantly, the Quad-exit 675LT exhaust system delivers a searing ‘LT soundtrack’ for the ears. This soundtrack is not merely the result of the material choice, but also the design, diameter, angle and spacing of the four, centrally mounted round exhaust pipes. The pipe diameter increases the exhaust volume, while the relative position of each pipe to the others delivers the precise harmonic content required to create a high-pitched, engaging note that becomes sharper as it builds to an incredible crescendo at high engine revs. OK, someone bring us a race track and a 675LT Super Series stat.
For the 765LT buyers planning extensive circuit driving, a track brake upgrade that comprises of bespoke LT brake pads and the same carbon ceramic discs fitted to the McLaren Senna can be specified. These are 60% stronger than conventional carbon ceramic discs and with four times the thermal conductivity – and therefore heat management – the upgraded brake discs reduce brake fade and wear rates. All this is coupled with the 675LT’s Formula 1-inspired, integrated caliper cooling ducts, which combine for desirable brake pedal feel and incredible stopping power.
Moving on from the braking, 10-spoke Ultra-Lightweight forged alloy wheels, titanium wheel bolts and bespoke Pirelli P Zero™ Trofeo R circuit-bred tyres are standard.
Filippo D’Adamo, Programme Manager – McLaren 765LT, sums it all up by saying “Any Longtail is a very special McLaren, a car that drives our designers and engineers to question how much more we can do, how far we can go. In the 765LT this has resulted in new McLaren carbon fibre technologies enabling vital weight savings, the most power and torque ever in an LT, the quickest acceleration and the highest levels of driver engagement.”
