Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the first to announce they will be canceling all activities for this year’s Monterey Car Week in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show and several other auto-related events earlier this year, many car lovers were holding out hope that the 2020 Monterey Car Week to be held in August and headlined by the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, would still be going ahead.

Unfortunately, that is not to be the case with Pebble Beach Company announcing their decision to cancel the 70th Pebble Beach Concours’ d’Elegance due to the health concerns of many of their entrants, judges, volunteers, and guests surrounding COVID-19 pandemic.

First held in 1950 on the Pebble Beach Golf Links, the luxury event is considered by many as the centerpiece of Monterey Car Week and has long been a favorite amongst young and old alike for its combination of classic show cars and new car unveilings.

Speaking on the decision to regrettably cancel the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Concours Chairman Sandra Button shared, “My heart goes out to all of the people who are involved in the Pebble Beach Concours and who are impacted by this decision. Many of our entrants have been working on a special car for years, and this was to be their moment. Some of our overseas entrants were nearing the point of putting their cars on boats and planes, and their own travel arrangements have long been made. The same is true for many of our international cadre of judges.”

“We thank all of the enthusiasts who have gathered at Pebble Beach time and again to renew long-standing friendships, celebrate great cars and give so generously to Concours charities — and who have already expressed their support for the coming celebration no matter the date.”

With the show cars having already been selected for the Concours d’Elegance, entrants have been ensured they will still be invited back in 2021 for the delayed 70th Pebble Beach Concours to be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021, and ticket purchases for this years event will also be valid for next year.

Now that Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has bowed out of Monterey Car Week, many other classic car events have also chosen to follow suit.
