With a focus on quality over quantity, car collector Steve Todhunter has taken decades to build his finely tuned collection, which includes a range of rare Ferrari’s like the “1 of 125 exported to the USA” 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO’s and “1 of 499” 2009 Ferrari F430 Scuderia Spider 16M.

He will now be offering the opportunity to other like-minded individuals to build their own dream collection thanks to the sale of his collection at the upcoming Mecum Auction.

Making it a point to search out premium examples of each model, one of the unique selling points of Todhunter’s collection is the low-mileage and low production volume of each model – creating some of the most highly desired vehicles of their production run.

A resident of rural Oklahoma, Todhunter’s exposure to the auto industry came early on thanks to his father, a design engineer for Ford Motor Company. He recalls many an hour watching his father creating auto prototypes at the kitchen table.

By the time he was old enough to purchase his own car (a 1970 Ford Torino), Todhunter was more than familiar with the inner workings under the hood of a new car and could easily recognize the parts his father had helped develop.

Not content to stick with the Ford models, Todhunter’s young attention soon turned to Mopar muscle cars, and he would go on to seek and acquire some of the most rare and sought-after Mopars ever built.

As the years passed and styles and personal tastes evolved, Todhunter’s attention was once again captured after spending time in Scottsdale as a part-time resident and seeing more Ferrari’s around town.

Enamored with their high-quality engineering and the rarity of the Italian prancing ponies, Todhunter soon began adding select Ferrari’s to his growing collection, describing his love for the Italian brand by saying, “There might be nothing better than the extreme contrast of Ferrari Rosso Corsa paint against the neutral tan desert backdrop.”

Steve Todhunter’s collection has continued to evolve through the years and grown tremendously, more in terms of quality than in size, though.

Focusing on the constant progression from good to better to best, Todhunter’s collection today now includes some of Ferrari’s finest, one of the most fascinating Saleen S7s produced along and features an outstanding range of vintage and modern Mopar and muscle cars, vintage motorcycles, and more that will all be auctioned at Mecum’s upcoming auction in Glendale, Arizona March 18-20 2021.
