Maserati has launched the highly-anticipated MC20 at an event in Modena and is the Italian brands first super sports car since the iconic MC12 introduced over 15 years ago.

Designed in Modena over 24 months, the MC20 (MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020) is built around an extremely lightweight carbon fiber monocoque tub and underwent two-thousand hours in the Dallara wind tunnel and over a thousand Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations as part of its development to create Maserati’s new era production racing sports car.

“We are setting the cornerstone for building the future of Maserati,” said Maserati COO Davide Grasso. “The MC20 is the embodiment of our values, the first of its kind 100% made in Modena. MC20 is the model that starts our new era.”

With sleek lines like the MC12, the new MC20 features a wide oval-shaped mesh grille and futuristic LED headlights at the front while the rear is characterized by simple details and a subtle rear diffuser. The use of ergonomic butterfly doors also allows easy access to and from the vehicle for passengers while adding something extra to the design.

Featuring the first in-house built engine by Maserati in 20 years, the “Nettuno” (Neptune) will be built at its Viale Ciro Menotti plant and is a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine capable of producing 621 horsepower and can reach in 0-60mph (0-100kmh) in 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 202mph (325kmh).

To celebrate the launch of the MC20, Maserati’s new paint shop has developed six – Bianco Audace, Giallo Genio, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, Nero Enigma, and Grigio Mistero – although for customers wanting to customize their MC20 further, a new customization program known as “Fuoriserie” (translated as “one-off”) will help achieve a tailor-made result.
