The Submarine That Can Be Deployed by Car: NEMO from U-Boat Worx

The new NEMO submarine by U-Boat Worx is now the lightest submarine built to date and can be towed and deployed using a car and trailer.

Dutch submersible manufacturer U-Boat Worx has launched its latest personal submarine and aptly named it NEMO.

This tiny 2 seater submarine is now the lightest manned submersible ever built, allowing you to explore underwater worlds down to a depth of 100 meters. The NEMO is so small it requires less storage space than two jet skis. At 2500 kg in weight, five feet tall, under eight feet wide and nine feet long, the NEMO can also be towed behind a vehicle and simply launched at a boat ramp somewhat like a jet ski.

For use on yachts, NEMO has a single lift point and can easily be placed on a flat surface without the need for a cradle, and considering NEMO’s incredibly compact size, the submersible will fit on a broader variety of boats than other manned submersibles.

Under the sea, the two occupants will have an unobstructed view through an almost invisible acrylic sphere immersing them into an underwater world. Powered by four silent electrical thrusters, the NEMO submarine operates with ease using a game console-like controller called MANTA, which can also be handed to a passenger to operate under the supervision of the pilot.

A second controller, the MARLIN, is a wireless remote to navigate the submarine from above water. Once the submarine is in the water the controller can be used to navigate it away from the support vessel without the need for a pilot inside.

U-Boat Worx will also provide a training course with each NEMO submersible purchase, consisting of 12 days at their Sub Center Curaçao facility. It’s here the owner will learn everything they need to know to become a certified submersible operator and handed the keys to their own fully DNV-GL certified NEMO submersible.

Usually submarines are made-to-order, but this is not the case with NEMO, making it the only production line submarine in the world. U-Boat Worx is now taking orders for NEMO with the submarine priced at €975,000 excluding VAT.
