Dutch based Wajer Yachts has revealed its largest yacht yet – the sleek 77ft Wajer 77 – and was joined at the launch by special guest Tom Brady, who will be taking delivery of his very own next year.

Designed in partnership with Sinot Yacht Architecture and Van Oossanen Naval Architects, the new Wajer 77 yacht is almost 50% larger than its Wajer 55 predecessor and as a luxury yacht suitable for overnight and weekend trips, adds an extra dimension to the brand’s offerings.

When asked at the launch, “Why the new model?” Wajer Yachts Managing Director Dries Wajer explained, “It came in two different ways. First, we have existing clients who want to grow with the brand and have been asking, “What’s going to be your next step? The second is that we want to expand and build up a fleet of different models to attract new potential clients.”

The official story of how the Wajer 77 came to be was through the process of several years of development with naval architects followed by the involvement of engineers and the build team to design the boat, but during the launch, Ronald van Hulst, Wajer Operations Manager, shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote, saying, “That’s the official way, but what really happened is that he [Dries Wajer] came up to me saying “Ronald, I have an idea. Just conceptually… We will look into a new design with Sinot, just a concept, nothing else. A few months later he comes back…. “Ronald. I have a problem. I’ve sold one! Don’t tell my Dad.”

While the first sale of a yet-to-be-created Wajer 77 may have come as an initial shock at the time, it would appear the early design concepts resonated amongst existing customers, with Wajer revealing they’ve already sold 15 of the new yachts before the official launch.

One new owner in particular who is looking to upgrade is American footballer Tom Brady who will be upgrading from a Wajer 55 to the new Wajer 77.

Speaking in a live cross at the launch, Tom shared his love for boating was sparked while living in New England and being around the boating community and grew further once relocating to Tampa Bay and living on the water.

Not long after moving to Tampa Bay, Brady knew they had to get a boat, and his family soon found themselves enjoying life on the water in a Wajer 55 S (and even the 38 while waiting for the 55 S to be completed).

“I have young kids, and being out on the water is a great activity for our family,” shared Brady. “We spent Christmas and New Years’ on our boat, and now it’s just getting into boating season here in Florida. The kids love it, the family loves it, and we’ve really had some great moments in the 13 months since we’ve been down here [in Florida].”

“The 55 is an amazing boat, and it’s been an amazing boat for our family. I think the 77 will be a little more suited for what we need it for, though. A few more day trips and overnight weekend trips, as we spend a lot of time in the Bahamas. Going from the East Coast of Florida across into the Bahamas and around the Bahamas would be really great trips for our family.”

When asked what the new name for their Wajer 77 will be, Tom revealed it would most likely be named “Viva a Vida” like its smaller sibling, a Portuguese name chosen by his wife Gisele Bündchen, which means “celebration of life.”

Created with a strong focus on outdoor living and entertaining, the Wajer 77 features spacious circular seating and sun pads at the front and large sofas and dining area at the stern of the yacht for guests to enjoy, and owners can easily reconfigure the deck layout depending on how the deck will be used for the day.

Below deck, the Wajer 77 can sleep nine guests comfortably and features a 5-meter-wide Master Suite with large windows on both sides, a Junior Suite with a double bed located at the bow of the boat, and a port-side guest cabin with a queen and single bed, each with their own ensuite bathroom. An additional crew cabin sleeps two and has a separate entrance for increased privacy.

The new Wajer 77 also includes a host of innovations, including a new Targa style sliding roof, a hybrid fender system also allows the fenders to inflate and deflate for easy storage automatically, and in a first for a yacht – deck cooling system that utilizes water-cooling to prevent overheating of both the deck and guests feet.

With a range of 400 nautical miles, the Wajer 77 is also better equipped for longer overnight trips in luxury and is one of the major drawcards for owners like Tom Brady looking to upgrade.

“We’ve noticed a growing desire among owners to travel the world over water. At the same time, the larger part of our clientele prefers to be behind the steering wheel. The Wajer 77’s comfort and ease of control are designed to cater exactly to those combined needs,” shared Dries Wajer. “We are very proud to have sold 15 of them before launch date.”
