Kai Burkhard’s One-Off Porsche 911 ‘Syberia RS’ Revealed
Porsche collector Kai Burkhard’s one-off Porsche 911 “Syberia RS” created from a 1986 Porsche 911 sourced from Japan has been revealed.
While off-roading modified Porsche’s are nothing new, in recent times there seems to have been a resurgence of the 70’s Safari Rally style (like Gemballa’s Avalanche 4×4 or even new builds such as RUF’s Rodeo concept), but Kai Burkhard’s newly created Porsche 911 “Syberia RS” draws inspiration from another rally, namely the 2007 Trans-Syberia Rally and is a one-off that undoubtedly requires a closer look.
According to Offroadium, Porsche collector Kai Burkhard was originally considering a Humvee but upon second thought decided against the slower pace of the rumbling giant and instead embarked on his own Porsche makeover project.
Sourcing a 1986 collector quality Porsche 911 from Japan, Kai Burkhard’s company BURKHARD INDUSTRIES then collaborated with the development team of suspension manufacturer H & R to build out the suspension system of the Syberian RS. Based in Germany, H & R has long been associated with developing cutting edge suspension systems for competition cars including Formula 1 vehicles, street-driven supercars like the Mercedes CLK DTM AMG and is a supplier to some of the top car brands including Porsche, Mercedes, and Volkswagen.
Working on the Kai’s Syberian RS, H&R gutted the original suspension system and replaced it with fully customized coilover suspension, spring plates and support bearings for maximum shock-absorption when rallying.
To take a standard Porsche 911 and turn it into the Syberian RS requires more than just a suspension adjustment however and it’s all the details like the deep-cut wheel arches, Hankook DynaPro Mud Terrain light truck tires, Fuchs rims, slick black paintwork, rally lights, hand-made roof rack, bumpers, safety winch and deep-cut wheel arches that complete the exterior look of Kai’s Porsche Syberian RS.
Not to mention the interior which boasts a set of Recaro race seats, a Momo steering wheel and one mean roll cage.
Originally built as a one-off, the owner has indicated he’d be open to chatting with potential owners who’d like their won SYBERIA RS if they’re “cool and friendly” so there’s hope yet if you’re in the market for an off-roading rally beast.
