In 1866 Giovanni Cranchi opened his first workshop on the shores of Lake Como and a short 4 years later, in 1870, Giovanni Cranchi registered the company, officially opening the long history of the boat builder we know today as Cranchi.

This year Cranchi celebrates an extraordinary 150 year anniversary, and to mark the occasion the Italian yard’s 15 decades of learning and discovery has culminated in the launch of a new flagship yacht, named the Settantotto, which translated in English means ‘Seventy Eight’.

Resting just shy of that number, the Settantotto’s hull designed by Aldo Cranchi is 76’3” long – with an overall length of 82’6” when including the aft swim platform that notably can be lowered for easy access to the water.

The theme of the new flagship centres heavily around design, so Centro Studi Ricerche Cranchi (the Research arm of the Cranchi shipyard) worked with the renowned Italian designer Christian Grande to create a yacht that exuded excellence.

Reflecting on the 78 Settantotto yacht’s design, Christian Grande commented “The breadth of the space in the Cranchi Settantotto pushed us towards a design with a markedly architectural matrix, which uses freestanding furniture elements and finishes that are still unconventional in the yachting world, such as back-painted glass and fabric covers for the walls. Large openings connect exteriors and interiors, integrating natural light and the sea element into the design.”

3 Cranchi Settantotto Exterior Selections

Starting outside, 11 design themes were formulated by designer Christian Grande for the Settantotto Yacht, with him finally selecting his top 3. The Italian boatbuilder has stated once before, that in its eyes, the colour of a yacht is not an accessory, it is the expression of the owner’s soul and character. According to Cranchi, from the first inspiration and very first pencil marks in designing the Settantotto yacht, the color choices were at the centre of the project.

Cranchi hopes each owner will be able to find the combination most in tune with his tastes or start from these suggestions to imagine their ideal palette.

Cosmo Supremo. Intense emotions
This nuance of superfine elegance enhances the technological qualities of the Settantotto, the skillful play of full and empty spaces, the powerful lightness of its lines.

Nube Supremo. Balance is strength
In this coloring, the perfect volumes of the Settantotto come alive with iridescent reflections; the lines blend harmoniously with the reflections of the sea and the infinite shades of the sky.

Panama Supremo. Pure beauty
This timeless classic gives the flagship a special aura, a warm and enveloping shade, which however lends itself to suggestions of great dynamism if combined with the custom flybridge in Cosmo Supremo and the T-top in matt black.

The Settantotto features multiple areas dedicated to socializing and relaxation on the bow, stern, the yacht’s large open-air flydeck and main deck.

Additional space is offered by the easily accessible swim platform. Equipped with a lift that allows it to be raised and moved forward, the cockpit can become a huge terrace over the sea with the extraordinary surface provided by the teak-covered garage. Opening the garage door reveals a large space, in which the area set up for the tender and Jet Ski can be separated from the area closer to the swim platform, which is suitable for chaises lounges.

Insulation and sound damping systems have been implemented in all areas of the yacht, with special attention to the machine room. This space has been designed with meticulous attention to detail, including design choices that facilitate access, mobility, maintenance activities and especially safety. The layout and choices of materials have also been carefully determined, prioritizing stainless steel and aluminium and fibreglass fuel reserve tanks to ensure no leakage and infiltration can occur.

The machine room houses three straight six-cylinder Volvo Penta D13 each of which can reach 1000 HP when necessary. Along with IPS3 pods, these create a compact, trustworthy and manageable solution, ideal for a yacht of Settantotto’s size.

4 Cranchi Settantotto Interior Proposals

Inside the Settantotto, Christian Grande designed 4 decor proposals each one drawing on a personality of 4 different Italian locations and asks the question “what idea of attractiveness inspires you most? The nocturnal and hi-tech of Milan, the bold one of Venice, the classic one of Rome, or the sunny and essential one of Siracusa?”

Decor Milano
The City that never sleeps, always looking towards the future that has inspired a contemporary and harmonious decor characterized by the burnished metals in which aluminium and steel with nickel effect shine with style.

Decor Venezia
Venice seduces and attracts us, its bold beauty has inspired decor with surprising accents. The orange leather, lacquers and warm-colored marbles together with the mirrored glass and amber reflections give a lively contrast between glossy and opaque surfaces. A true love at first sight.

Decor Roma
True beauty is eternal. The elegant fabrics used for the vertical surfaces recall the tones of the Italian lands while the striped marbles give an unmistakable classic touch to the rooms.

Decor Siracusa
A proposal with a temperate and essential elegance. The contrasts between light and dark surfaces enhance the natural brightness of the rooms and underline the linear and clean design of the Settantotto. Light glossy lacquer with black edges, oak floors combined with the light oak of the vertical surfaces, bright marbles and dove gray fabrics on board the yacht gives a feeling of well-being.

Inside, ample volumes, elegance and function are the distinguishing traits of the square deck, with an optimal layout for the galley, living room and relaxation areas. An unusual feature on a yacht this size is an additional toilet on the main deck.

The layout below deck can include up to four en suite cabins (three large double cabins and one cabin with two single beds). All beds are placed along the longitudinal bow/stern axis, to ensure the greatest comfort when resting.

To make the onboard experience even more comfortable, each area is equipped with an entertainment and home automation system, which you can control from a smartphone or the navigation panel thanks to the Garmin glass cockpit, providing easy access to all systems.

In perfect harmony with the choices of art direction, the Settantotto is furnished with elements of the Flexform collections, a historic and dynamic Made in Italy furniture brand. The full-beam master cabin in the centre of the yacht offers luxury-suite style emotions, with a walk-in wardrobe and a study or beauty corner and the VIP cabin located in the Settantotto’s bow.

The cabin reserved for the crew is also very pleasant, with two bunks and a toilet with a separate shower. The crew cabin, with access separate from the other cabins, also includes a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Further Customizing With Cranchi Atelier

If any of the above layout and décor options don’t quite hit the mark Cranchi goes one step further offering buyers its personalization program called Cranchi Atelier, which allows each owner to make each Settantotto yacht completely unique.

The customization options are almost endless with owners being able to specify special paints, upholstery and fine moldings, fabrics, materials and essences, all selected together with the help of designer Christian Grande. The Cranchi Atelier program also focuses on satisfying any preferences an owner has in terms of altering the Settantotto’s layout and equipment.
