The 728ft Norwegian-built M/Y Somnio will feature 39 ultra-luxury onboard residences and be the world’s largest residential superyacht when it launches in 2024.
The new 728ft Norweigian-built M/Y Somnio will be the world’s largest residential superyacht when it launches in 2024. Designed as a collaboration between UK-based Winch Design and Tillberg Design of Sweden, Somnio (meaning “to dream” in Latin) is the first-ever “Yacht Liner” and offers a niche model of superyacht ownership.
Featuring 39 individual high-end apartments across six levels, prices for ownership in Somnio is said to start at $11 million each and will be available for purchase by invitation only.
Offering a never-ending global itinerary of carefully selected destinations and 7-star hotel service, owners will be able to enjoy a unique way of enjoying life at sea in ultimate luxury.
Onboard amenities will include a 10,000 bottle capacity wine cellar and tasting room, multiple restaurants and bars, and an onboard beach club with watersport facilities. Security and medical care are also a high priority and will be tailored to ensure a high level of safety during pandemics and other global risks.
Led by a group of investors headed by US millionaire Car Le Souf of Somnio Global (a sustainable technology organization) and overseen by Somio Lead Captain Erik Bredhe (previously captain of The World – the only residential vessel at sea), construction of the 728ft Somnio is currently underway at VARD shipyard in Norway (part of Italy’s Fincantieri Yachts Group) and is expected to be finished mid-2024.
“Somnio will be the only residential superyacht in the world and has been designed to exacting standards that are commensurate with a life of opportunity,” shared Captain Erik Bredhe. “Owners will share a truly unique lifestyle at sea, with a hand-picked crew and a never-ending global itinerary of carefully selected destinations and experiences befitting a yacht of this nature.”
Plans are for Somnio to focus on slow-paced travel and for owners to share a unique way of life with like-minded owners and friends as they traverse the globe from the Mediterranean, New York, South Pacific to Antarctica.
“Embarking on such a spectacular and pioneering project brings a huge amount of pride and excitement for the Winch Design team and follows an enormous amount of hard work already achieved,” says Jim Dixon, Director of Yachts & Aviation at Winch Design. “It’s a privilege to be working with Tillberg Design and VARD shipyard on what will be a revolutionary landmark for the industry. We look forward to working closely with all those involved and can’t wait to see her develop!”
