Ferrari unveils two limited edition models at their private Fiorano test track – the Ferrari 812 Competizione and the open-top Ferrari 812 Competizione A.
In a live presentation straight from Ferrari’s private Fiorano test track in Italy, Ferrari unveiled its two newest limited edition supercars – the Ferrari 812 Competizione – described as “the ultimate expression of Ferrari’s concept of an extreme front-engined Berlinetta,” and its open-top sibling, the Ferrari 812 Competizione A.
With Ferrari teasing images of the coupe edition already, the only thing left to announce was the name and the technical details, but the open-top was an unexpected surprise for most and extends the 812 family even further.
Both models are inspired by Ferrari’s racing legacy and are powered by Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine. Boasting maximum revs of 9,500 rpm and capable of producing 818hp, the finely tuned engines are the highest-revving of any Ferrari road car and can accelerate the vehicles to 0-60mph in 2.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 211mph.
Ferrari’s 812 engine has been significantly re-engineered to achieve this, including the redesign of the distribution and the cylinder head and cams with a new diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating. Likewise, the piston, crankshaft, and distribution have also been reworked.
Similar in appearance to the 812 Superfast, the exterior design of both models is further refined through the use of cutting-edge aerodynamic research. This is reflected in the reduction of the car’s weight through the extensive use of carbon fiber and external design features like the single-piece aluminum rear screen with “vortex generators” on the coupe and a bridge element on the open-top version that acts like a wing to increase drag.
The interior architecture is a continuation of the 812 Superfast and retains the main dash and door panel interfaces while the new door panel has been redesigned to reduce the weight and, combined with the introduction of the H-gate theme on the tunnel, gives the cockpit a sportier, more modern edge to reflects the car’s racing spirit.
The Ferrari 812 Competizione will be limited to 999 vehicles in total, with production scheduled to begin early 2022 and will be followed up with 599 of the 812 Competizione A late 2022….all of which are reportedly sold out already.
