The iconic Porsche Targa “half –top” cabriolet first made its debut in 1965 and since remained a popular model for a sub-set of Porsche fans. Now following on from the Coupe and Cabriolet editions of the current generation comes the new all-wheel drive 2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and 4S.

Like earlier editions, the silver Targa bar and wraparound rear window are instantly recognizable although there is the option to upgrade the standard silver Targa bar to black if preferred. The removable roof section has also been updated with a fully automatic roof system that can be opened and closed in 19 seconds (although not while driving).

For the exterior design of the 2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and 4S models, most of the design elements draw from the current 992 model generation and feature an almost entirely aluminum body with more pronounced wheel housings and a wider rear spoiler

Both powered by a 6 cylinder 3 liter twin-turbo boxer engine and fitted with an 8 speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK), the 911 Targa 4 engine produces 379 hp at 6,500 rpm and hits 0-60mph in 4 seconds while the 4S model produces 443hp and can reach 60mph in 3.4 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. In terms of top speed, the 911 is capable of reaching 179 mph and the 4S 188 mph.

Following in the footsteps of the other eight generation Porsche 911 variants, the 911 Targa 4 and 4S models both come with Porsche Wet Mode as a standard feature. Fitted with sensors in the front wheel housings, the vehicle can detect water on the road surface, and if enough of it, the stability control system is automatically optimized and sends a message to recommend that the driver manually switches to Wet Mode. Once Wet Mode is engaged, the powertrain adapts to the conditions to help improve traction and stability in wet weather.

The new Porsche 911 Targa 4 and 4S models also have the option of adding the enhanced Smartlift function for the front axle lift system, allowing owners to program frequently visited locations so that the vehicle knows when to automatically raise the front end of the car (avoiding potentially expensive scratches and scrapes).

For the first time in the Targa model, Porsche’s InnoDrive with its adaptive cruise control will also be available as an optional extra.

The new 2021 Porsche 911 Targa models will start from USD$119,300 for the Targa 4 model and USD$135,200 for the Targa 4S model and are available to order now with deliveries expected late 2020.
