Bentley’s bespoke Mulliner team has completed the first new Bentley Blower Continuation Series in over 90 years as part of their most historical models in a program known as the Bentley Mulliner Classic Portfolio (one of three new divisions of Mulliner alongside “Coachbuilt” which was responsible for the Bacalar and “Collections” which created the Continental GT Mulliner).

Based on the original 1929 Bentley Blower model (chassis HB 3403) as raced by Sir Henry “Tim” Birkin, the Mulliner team studied every part of the car meticulously and used original drawings, archived period photographs, and 3D CAD laser scans to ensure the engineers, craftspeople and technicians were able to authentically recreate the new Blower with 1,846 individually and precisely hand-crafted parts.

Taking over 40,000 hours to build, the first Bentley Blower Continuation model has been dubbed “Car Zero” and will now begin extensive testing in preparation for the 12 pre-sold customer cars.

“Seeing Car Zero come together over the last weeks and months has been astonishing,” shared Paul Williams, Bentley’s Director of Mulliner. “The very latest digital design techniques came together with genuine artisanal hand-crafted artistry – often using manufacturing methods true to the 1920s. It’s only through this fusion of old and new that we could craft these cars, with the skills of our engineers mirrored in those of our specialist suppliers. We’ve issued thousands of drawings and specifications for components, and watching them arrive into Mulliner and then seeing the car take shape has been hugely rewarding. Now we start the next phase – testing and development, ahead of the build of the 12 customer cars.”

Finished in gloss black with a contrasting Oxblood red leather interior, Bentley Blower “Car Zero”’s brand new 4½-litre engine has been created with the expert support of specialists and is an exact recreation of the engines that powered Tim Birkin’s four Team Blowers that raced in the late 1920s.

With the build of Car Zero now complete and durability testing currently underway, all twelve Bentley Blower Continuations have been sold, but this paves the way for a revival of some of the best historical models Bentley has ever produced.
