Ferrari have revealed their latest bespoke coach-built project, the V12 Grand Tourer “Omologata. Commissioned by a “discerning European client,” the Omologata (which means “homologation” in Italian) is the 10th bespoke front-engined V12 created by the Italian supercar brand since 2009 and was two years in the making, beginning life as a standard 812 Superfast before getting a complete bodywork makeover from the Special Projects Division at Maranello.

Taking note from Ferrari’s past Grand Tourer’s, the Omologata project was developed through sketches and images inspired from various sources, including Ferrari’s racing heritage, to sci-fi and modern architecture – all with the intent to create a futuristic design of a classic Grand Tourer.

Ultimately the designers, headed by Flavio Manzoni, chose to keep only the windscreen and headlights of the 812 Superfast as existing bodywork elements and developed an entirely new aluminum coach-built body.

Ensuring the design met every safety constraint required for road homologation, Ferrari’s new Omologata body sees the addition of a new flattened oval grille at the front of the body. Simultaneously, the angular lines of the 812 Superfast give way to the muscular curves of the Omologata. Another distinguishing feature between the two is the rear fastback styling, which sees three transversal cuts compared to the glass window screen of the 812 Superfast.

A sporty livery has also been added along with a special triple-layer paintwork explicitly created for the project – “Rosso Magma” over a darkened carbon-fiber finish. Meanwhile, the interior has been finished with a “crackled paint” effect reflecting the Ferrari GT racers of the ’50’s and 60’s and a combination of leather and fabric seating with electric blue racing harnesses.

Still powered by the 812 Superfast’s drivetrain, the 6.5-liter V12 can produce 789 horsepower and 530lb-ft of torque and is just as fast.

“The latest offering in Ferrari’s line of unique coach-built one-off models is a vibrant evocation of the values that define Ferrari in relation to GT racing,” says Ferrari. “A car that is equally at ease on the road as it is hitting the apex on the track in the hands of a true gentleman driver.”
