Not to be confused with the record-breaking “Chiron Super Sport 300+”, the first car to exceed 300 miles per hour, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport isn’t simply a body kit upgrade of the original Chiron but rather an even sportier version of the 8.0 litre quad-turbo W16-cylinder supercar.

More specifically, the Pur Sport has been developed for love of the twists and turns of open road driving and is to be enjoyed at an entire range of speeds.

Sharing his reasoning behind this latest model, Bugatti CEO, Stephan Winklemann noted, “We spoke to customers and realised they wanted a vehicle that is geared even more towards agility and dynamic cornering. A hypersports car that yearns for country roads with as many bends as possible. An unadulterated, uncompromising driving machine.”

While the Chiron Super Sport+ is designed to go very fast and excel at high speeds, it may not necessarily be everyone’s first choice of car to take out for a face paced Sunday drive in the mountains.

Consequently, tweaks were made to ensure the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport excelled at all speeds including cutting the weight by 50kg’s (110lbs), configuring the aerodynamics to generate more downforce and using high-performance extreme grip tyres made with a new rubber material mix, all of which help to boost lateral acceleration by 10% and increase concerning speed.

Of the 50kg’s that were shed, 16kg alone came from the new wheel design created in collaboration with Frank Heyl and the Technical Development team. Utilising light-weight magnesium, the updated wheel design uses innovative aero blades configured to pull air towards the ear of the wheel, helping to prevent turbulence in the wheel area.

The Chiron Pur Sport’s new chassis setup also features 65% firmer springs at the front and 33% firmer springs at the rear and an adaptive damping control strategy geared towards performance, guaranteeing even more dynamic handling and added agility in bends.

Commenting on the handling of the Chiron Pur Sport, Jachin Schwalbe, Head of Bugatti Chassis Development enthused, “All of the modifications make the Pur Sport’s handling more accurate, direct and predictable. Lower unsprung masses result in improved grip because the wheel maintains contact with the road surface more easily. Anyone behind the wheel will immediately feel its lightweight character through bends.”

Visually speaking, at a first glance the appearance of the Chiron Pur Sport isn’t too dissimilar to the original Chiron however upon closer inspection, details like the giant air intakes and enlarged horseshoe radiator panel at the front of the car and the 1.9 metre fixed rear spoiler make it much easier to identify it from its older sibling.

When it comes to the fun part of spec’ing your Pur Sport, owners will now have a new choice from Bugatti’s signature split paintwork options and will be able to opt for an exposed carbon fiber look along the bottom third of the vehicle with the paint colour of their choice applied to the remainder.

Internally, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport’s interior has purposely been kept lean in order to further reduce weight, using laser cut Alcantara for most surfaces and a mixture of aluminum or titanium for the dials, controls and trim.

Drivers will also be treated to an extra surprise when switching through the drive modes of the Chiron Pur Sport. Alongside the EB (comfort), Motorway, Handling and Sport modes, there is now a new Sport+ mode.

Configured especially for skilled drivers, when driving in Sports+ mode on the race track, the traction control system doesn’t come into play until much later, allowing far more precision through apexes when cornering and drifting in general.

Looks like Bugatti weren’t quite ready to let the open roads have all the fun to themselves and couldn’t help themselves with the extra track configurations….

In the words of Winklemann, “With the Chiron Pur Sport we are showcasing an outstanding vehicle that makes your heart race shortly after having started the engine to push the limits of driving physics even further to the limit than any vehicle ever has done before. This means we have come full circle, back to the good, old Bugatti tradition.”
