Breitling Reveals New Super Chronomat 44mm Editions

Breitling’s new Super Chronomat 44m editions are a chunkier version of a design inspired by the 1980’s Chronomat created for the Italian Air Force “Frecce Tricolori” aerobatic fleet in 1983.

Breitling has revealed new 44mm editions of the Super Chronomat, a design inspired first by the 1980’s Chronomat first created for the Italian Air Force aerobatic fleet “Frecce Tricolori” in 1983.

When it was first revealed in the 80’s, the Breitling Chronomat offered an alternate sporty mechanical chronograph to a market saturated with slim-line quartz watches and found a second-life when it was reintroduced by the brand this time last year.

Previously released in 32mm, 36mm and 42mm editions, now Breitling watch collectors will have the choice of several different colored 44mm watches, including the Breitling Super Chronomat B01 44 available as a stainless steel case with a blue or black dial on a rubber, stainless steel bracelet, or the option to select a stainless steel bracelet with a black dial UTC-module embedded into the bracelet to help the wearer keep track of a second-time zone.

Additionally, the Breitling Super Chronomat B01 44 is available with an 18K red gold case with a brown dial on either a bracelet or rubber strap.

Like the Chronomat of the ’80s, the new Super Chronomat features many of the same details, like the stainless steel integrated Rouleaux bracelet and the signature rotating bezel with inter-changeable rider tabs (operating as a “count down” or “count-up” timer depending on the needs of the wearer) making it a popular watch amongst aviators, deep-sea divers, and race car drivers alike.

The other new edition is the Breitling Super Chronomat 44 Four-Year Calendar model, a semi-perpetual calendar mechanism watch that needs adjusting just once every leap year – or every 1461 days – and is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

It comes in two versions: a black dial model with tone-on-tone chronograph counters, a stainless-steel bezel with a black ceramic bezel insert, and 18 k red gold elements or a blue dial model featuring tone-on-tone chronograph counters and a bezel in 18 k red gold with a blue ceramic insert.
