LEGO Reveals New Porsche 911 Turbo and Targa 2-in-1 Set
LEGO couldn’t decide which Porsche 911 model to make, so have created a new set that lets enthusiasts build either the Turbo or Targa model from a single set.
LEGO has revealed a new two-in-one Porsche Creator set that lets enthusiasts build their very own Porsche 911 Turbo or Targa for a fraction of what it would cost to put a full-size one in your garage.
Paying tribute to the iconic models made famous in the 1970s and ’80s, the new LEGO Porsche set is part of a collection of buildable model kits for adults and is made up of 1,458 individual pieces that can be built into either the fixed roof 911Turbo model or the open-roofed 911 Targa model, depending on whether a coupe or convertible takes your fancy at the time.
“As we were designing the car, the hardest decision to make was whether we would make the Turbo or Targa variant of the car,” shared Mike Psiaki, Design Master at the LEGO Group. “It was such a tough call that we engineered the ability to build the LEGO Porsche 911 Turbo and Targa from a single set. Without doubt, fans of the 911 all over the world who have long admired these cars will love the opportunity to build both versions!”
Although similar in appearance at first glance, when assembled, the LEGO 911 Turbo features distinctive Turbo badging, a wide rear axle, integrated spoiler and a turbocharger, complete with an intercooler.
Meanwhile, the assembled LEGO 911 Targa model features a fully removable roof that can be stored in the hood, plus the iconic Targa Bar, and Targa badging.
Both models share the same interior, which features the 2+2 sports seats, dashboard, handbrake, gearshift, and steering wheel in the retro orange and nougat color scheme based on upholstery options for the Porsche 911.
The LEGO Porsche 911 Turbo Targa 2-in-1 set retails for $149.99 and is available from March 1 on Lego.com, although LEGO VIP members will have early access from February 16.
LEGO has also announced that a limited-edition LEGO Porsche owners pack will be included with the first buyers’ orders through the LEGO VIP loyalty program. The Owners Pack contains a certificate of ownership, an official LEGO Porsche card wallet, and a set of four unique art prints based on Porsche 911 adverts, all presented in a collector’s wallet.
