H. Moser & Cie have revealed the latest edition of the sporty Pioneer Centre Seconds in the rare “Swiss Mad Red” fumé sunburst color.

For those not familiar with the Swiss-based boutique watchmaker, H. Moser & Cie describe themselves as makers of “very rare watches” with a focus on producing limited and highly desirable pieces (around 1200 – 1500 watches per year) and participating in unique collaborations like the MB&F Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon performance art piece.

The fumé (smokey look) dial is signature H. Moser & Cie look.

Much like their iconic fumé (smokey-look) dials, the company is multi-dimensional, and the respected Swiss watchmaker has a delightfully subtle sense of humour that weaves itself through the brand (although it may not always be evident on first glance).

Take for instance, an earlier marketing piece produced for the Pioneer Centre Seconds Watch in which Edouard Meylan (the CEO) dismisses the age-old marketing slogan of “a watch you buy for your son” with a tongue-in-cheek “No. He’s not getting my Pioneer…. Such a cliché.”

First launched in 2015 as H. Moser & Cie’s first luxury sports watch, the Pioneer Centre Seconds watch is designed to be worn as an everyday watch (thanks in part to its hardy rubber strap) and has previously been released in both Cosmic Green and Funky Blue editions.

Presented in a 42.8mm steel case with a simple round watch face featuring the fiery red “Swiss Mad Red” fumé dial, the Pioneer Centre Seconds Swiss Mad Red isn’t attempting to do all things at once. Instead, it offers an uncluttered dial with skeletonized hour and minute hands pointing to the minimalist hour markers dotted with Super-Luminova dots for night-time viewing.

Powered by a caliber HMC 200 (in-house automatic movement), the Moser Pioneer Centre Seconds Swiss Mad Red has a three-day power reserve. It’s also rated as water-resistant to 120atm (400ft), meaning you’ll be more than ready to venture far and wide across earth and sea.

Priced at USD$12,900, it’s friendlier on the pocket than some of the other H. Moser & Cie timepieces and can be purchased through authorized dealers or online.
