Rimac Automobili must be doing something right cause Porsche has just invested another 70 million euros into the young electric supercar company, bringing their total stake in the company to 24%.
This latest investment now increases Porsche’s stake in Rimac Automobili to 24%, following earlier investments in 2018 for 10% and again in 2019 for a 15.5% stake.
Founded by Mate Rimac in 2009 at the age of 21 and started from a garage in Croatia, Rimac Automobili first attracted Porsche’s attention with their innovations and technology knowledge in the field of electrified powertrains and EV vehicles.
Mate Rimac’s dream was to create the world’s first electric supercar, which his team achieved in a little over two years in the form of the Concept_One.
Rimac then followed up with the design for Concept_Two, of which every major component of the vehicle has been designed, engineered, and produced in-house and is set to be revealed officially later this year.
“Porsche has been a big supporter of our company since 2018, and it has always been a privilege to have one of the world’s most iconic sports car brands be a part of Rimac. We’re proud to work together on new exciting and electrified products and of the fact that Porsche’s trust in Rimac resulted in several rounds of investment, making Porsche an important shareholder of the company,” shared Mate Rimac, Founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili.
“With many OEMs across the world being Rimac customers, it is important, both for Rimac and Porsche, that we remain an entirely independent business. Our projects and our shareholders are – and will always be – entirely separate, allowing us to maintain the information firewall that our partners rely on, and enabling us to continue working with many OEMs. The partnership with Porsche helps the company develop and grow, which is beneficial for all of our customers.”
Since the first investment in the company by Porsche, Rimac Automobili has increased to over 1,000 staff and now works with many of the major car manufacturers, including Koenigsegg, Porsche, Automobili Pininfarina, Aston Martin, and Hyundai. The small independent company is able to offer expertise in electric powertrain technology, batteries, infotainment, and other components relating to electrification.
Porsche has already confirmed first orders with Rimac Automobili to develop highly innovative series components in their vehicles and appear happy with their initial investment as Rimac continues to grow year on year.
