URWERK Launches Limited Edition UR-100V “Blue Planet”
The new URWERK UR-100V Blue Planet is an earth-inspired version of the SpaceTime watch and limited to only 25 pieces.
The new URWERK UR-100V Blue Planet is a tribute to the big blue marble we appear from outer space and expresses this in the form of a deep matte blue steel case, blue movement piece, and blue detailing.
Designed by Swiss makers URWERK to take the wearer on a “journey through both time and space,” the URWERK UR-100V Blue Planet features the brand’s iconic satellite display, which first debuted in the fall of 2019 and displays the time through the use of three hour-satellite system, also presented in the same deep blue as the case.
“When I create and when I paint, all colors resonate in me, but particularly blue. During my education at the Academy of Arts and Design in Lucerne, I had the chance to study the great Florentine artist Giotto. He was the first who, at the end of the Middle Ages, painted the sky blue — dethroning Byzantine gold — and launching the ‘realistic’ style of painting is normal today. I love the color of Giotto’s blue sky; it’s the same sky as ours. Blue is a color that surrounds us, that encompasses us,” explains URWERK’s designer and co-founder, Martin Frei.
Like previous models, the UR-100V Blue Planet displays the hour in the middle of the satellite with the visible minute counter showing, while the minute arrowhead “slides” across the bottom of the watch to indicate the minutes.
Once the minute pointer disappears out of sight, its journey has only just begun as it makes its way around the clock face to perform two additional functions.
The first is when it reappears at 9’o’clock to track the 555.55 kilometers the Earth has just rotated at the equator every 20 minutes and then again when it makes an appearance at 3 o’clock to display the 35,742 kilometers the Earth has just traveled around the sun in the past 20 minutes.
As the sixth variation of the UR-100 SpaceTime watch, the Blue Planet is a navy-colored reiteration of the UR-100 Blue with a silver case and blue detailing and holds its own alongside the original UR-100 Black, the C-3P0 inspired UR-100 Gold, the UR-100 Gunmetal, and the Jurassic Park inspired UR-100V T-Rex.
Powered by URWERK’s own UR 12.02 self-winding mechanical movement, the watch has a power reserve of 48 hours.
The URWERK UR-100V Blue Planet is limited to only 25 pieces in total and is priced at 48,000.00 CHF (approx USD$51,000).
