Hublot Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire Technical Specifications
In 2016 Hublot created the first Big Bang Unico Sapphire crystal watch, and now at this year’s Watches & Wonders event, have revealed the Hublot Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire – the first Big Bang with an integrated case and bracelet made entirely from sapphire crystal.
“For such an exceptional creation, we opted for the new Automatic Tourbillon caliber with its sapphire bridges, the transparency of which creates a stunning spectacle,” says Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO. “The act of creating an integrated case and bracelet from sapphire was, however, deemed impossible. But we were the first brand to gain perfect mastery of sapphire, industrializing it and making it reproducible in series production.
It took us five years to bring our first sapphire cases to life – and almost as long for the bracelet. Producing both from sapphire and integrating them together is the pinnacle of the in-depth work undertaken by all of Hublot’s teams. We are proud to be the ones writing the first lines in this new chapter in the history of materials”.
The Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire case has been reconstructed to remove almost all of the visible screws and overhaul the case’s general geometry to integrate it with the sapphire bracelet. Hublot also developed inserts and attachments to allow light through every component.
In terms of the movement, the in-house developed and manufactured HUB6035 automatic manufacture caliber is the beating heart of the piece and is a perfect balance between the micro-rotor at 12 o’clock and the tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

Hublot Big Bang Integral Tourbillon High Jewellery
Launched in 2020, the Big Bang Integral fully integrates the bracelet into the case to achieve a visually balanced design. It is this platform Hublot decided to use as its “High Jewellery” piece for 2020.
Since the “One Million $ Model” reveal in 2007, Hublot has released a unique piece of High Jewellery each year that more often than not exceeds $1,000,000 and this year Hublot has presented the one-off Hublot Big Bang Integral Tourbillon High Jewellery watch.
Featuring Hublot’s in-house automatic tourbillon caliber housed in a case and bracelet set with 484 baguette-cut diamonds for a total of 31 carats, the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon High Jewellery is a fusion of Hublot’s innovation and know-how with High Jewellery in a single 43-mm-diameter piece, all in perfect balance.
“Every year, for the last 14 years, we have created a piece or a collection of exceptional High Jewellery,” says Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO. “This year, the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon High Jewellery is our 30th unique piece of High Jewellery. Our primary goal: to surpass all our limits, to challenge ourselves to go beyond our initial expertise of watchmaking, and to achieve the exceptional with watches that are entirely set with precious stones and smash all the records in terms of working hours, the number of carats, the combination of types of setting, and selling point. In so doing, our watchmaking know-how – in terms of mechanisms and complications – and our identity – the fusion of materials – remain essential. Hundreds of hours are spent on preparation – from the design, with regard to setting the precious stones, to searching for and cutting the stones, and to the setting itself – because setting a watch like the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon High Jewellery is a true technical and aesthetic achievement. We never give in to doubt because we like to make the impossible possible.”

Patek Philippe Calatrava “Clous de Paris” 2021 Releases
Of all the Calatrava watches since 1932, one model, in particular, has received the most attention – the one with the bezel decorated with a guilloched “Clous de Paris” pattern introduced in 1985.
It is this “Clous de Paris” bezel design Patek Philippe has revived for this year’s new Calatrava designs along with the introduction of an updated manually wound movement, a slightly enlarged case and hour markers in gold for a sleek refined appearance.
Available in two versions, the 2021 Calatrava comes in rose gold with a silvery grained dial and a white gold model with a charcoal gray dial.
Origin and key dates of the Patek Philippe Calatrava “Clous de Paris”
1932 – Launch of the first Calatrava, the famous Ref. 96 (the first Patek Philippe model with a reference number) with the manually wound caliber 12-120.
1934 – The Ref. 96D (“D” short for Décor) features the same manually wound caliber 12-120, the same round dial with applied hour markers, and the same slightly curved strap lugs as the Ref. 96, but distinguishes itself with a bezel decorated with the guilloched “Clous de Paris” motif.
1953 – The Ref. 2526 is the first Patek Philippe wristwatch endowed with a self-winding movement, the caliber 12-600 AT.
1972 – The Ref. 3520D with a manually wound movement (caliber 177) combines a “Clous de Paris” bezel, an hours/minutes dial with Roman numerals, and a case with straight strap lugs.
1982 – The Ref. 3796 with a case and dial inspired by the Ref. 96 is powered by a self-winding caliber 215 PS movement with subsidiary seconds.
1985 – Launch of the famous Ref. 3919 “Clous de Paris” with a manually wound caliber 215 PS movement, subsidiary seconds, white dial with black lacquered Roman numerals and straight lugs. This model, was produced for 20 years and became one of the most celebrated timepieces in the world of horology.
1988 – The Ref. 3992 with a “Clous de Paris” bezel and straight lugs is powered by a self-winding, ultra-thin caliber 240 movement.
2000 – The Ref. 5107 equipped with the self-winding caliber 315 S C movement features a dial with sweep seconds and an aperture date.
2000 – The Ref. 5115 “Clous de Paris” with the manually wound caliber 215 PS movement echoes the dipping curved strap lugs that recall the Refs. 96 and 96D.
2001 – The self-winding caliber 240 movement powers the Ref. 5120 “Clous de Paris” with hour and minute hands, Roman numerals and straight lugs.
2004 – The Ref. 5196 combines a manually wound caliber 215 PS movement with subsidiary seconds as well as a case and dial inspired by the Ref. 96.
2006 – The Ref. 5119 with elongated slender Roman numerals is a reinterpretation of the Ref. 3919 in a slightly larger case (36mm instead of 33.5mm) and it retains the manually wound caliber 215 PS movement as well as the straight lugs.

Watches & Wonders 2021: Breitling New Releases
Published
4 years agoon
April 12, 2021By
Sommer MelseBreitling reveals their latest watch designs at Watches & Wonders 2021: The Premier Heritage Collection featuring six new Chronograph, Duograph and Datora models.
Breitling’s new releases from Watches & Wonders 2021 include six new Premier Heritage Collection pieces inspired by Breitling’s three-generation of founders.
Léon Breitling, who founded the company in 1884, originally patented a simple timer/tachymeter that could measure any speed between 15 and 150 km/h, an invention featured in the 1906 Vitesse pocket watch.
In 1915, his son, Gaston, created one of the first wrist-worn chronographs with an independent pusher at 2 o’clock. This innovation separated the start, stop, and reset functions from the crown, making it infinitely more practical for timing sports.
Then in 1934, Léon’s grandson, Willy, patented the second independent chronograph pusher at 4 o’clock.
Along with being a watchmaker, Willy also understood people’s desire for elegant and glamorous timepieces, leading him to design the original Premier watches in the 1940s.
“This heritage-inspired design with a stylish modern twist embodies some of Breitling’s most famous innovations, and revives Breitling’s legacy of inventing the modern chronograph. This truly is our heritage revived,” says Georges Kern, Breitling CEO.
The new generation of Premiers – the Breitling Premier Heritage Collection has been designed to bring the timeless elegance back to life and includes pieces from three specific categories: The Chronograph, The Duograph, and The Datora.
Breitling Premier B09 Chronograph 40 Releases

The new Premier Heritage Chronograph is available in two variations: an eye-catching pistachio-green dial encased in stainless steel or a cream-colored silver dial encased in 18 k red gold.

Sommer MelseZenith Watches reveals their latest watch designs at Watches & Wonders 2021: The Zenith Defy 21 Spectrum Collection and a revival of some of their most historic pieces with the new Zenith ICONS program.
This year at Watches & Wonders 2021, Zenith has revealed the new bright and colorful Zenith Defy 21 Spectrum Collection along with the revival of some of their most historic pieces thanks to the new Zenith ICONS program.
Looking to the future, Zenith’s new Defy 21 Spectrum collection consists of five color variations representing the different wavelengths of visible light, with each version featuring a bezel set with baguette-cut precious stones to match the colored movements and rubber straps: green tsavorites for the green edition, orange sapphires for the orange edition, blue sapphires for the blue edition, amethyst for the purple edition, and black spinels for the black edition.
Featuring a stainless steel case embedded with 288 brilliant-cut diamonds, the bedazzled timepieces are powered by El Primero 21, Zenith’s revolutionary 1/100th of a second chronograph caliber with matching color movements.
The new Zenith Defy Spectrum Collection pieces are limited to 10 pieces of each color and are priced at USD$35,900.

The second announcement from Zenith is their plan to revive some of their most sought-after and important vintage models with the Zenith ICONS program.
Selecting the brand’s most important historical references, Zenith will curate a selection of iconic and vintage Zenith watches to be restored and certified by the Manufacture in Le Locle and sold exclusively at Zenith’s boutiques.
Each Zenith ICON watch will come with a 3-year warranty and “passport” to track its path in this new life.
“This is an exciting new chapter for Zenith’s legacy, and I’m extremely proud of the teams at the Zenith Manufacture for taking on this initiative,” shared Julien Tornare Zenith CEO. “We are bridging the past with the future by celebrating Zenith’s rich history and the references that have become true icons of watchmaking. We are acquiring historical timepieces from sources who have cherished them for a very long time and allowing others the opportunity to enjoy them. These rare pieces can now embark on a second life using existing resources at the Manufacture, and I’m really excited to share these pieces of history with our customers. This is just the beginning!”
The Zenith Icons program begins with finding the most well-preserved examples of its most iconic historical references.
Once a watch is found that appears to be in excellent condition, the Manufacture works with its Heritage department to conduct research, tracing back the watch’s origins to ensure that all parts are genuine and coherent.
Thanks to a massive archive spanning the entire history of the Manufacture’s production, Zenith can identify and authenticate even the smallest component of any watch it has ever built. Once the Heritage Department approves a watch, the Manufacture purchases it and hands it to the Heritage team, who conduct further inspections on it.
Once the Heritage department has approved the watch, the timepiece enters the restoration phase to retain as many original parts and materials as possible.
After this is completed, a “passport” is issued for the Zenith ICON watch and stored digitally in the Zenith Archives to provide a 3-year warranty covering the movements and any manufacturing defects and normal wear-and-tear of components.
The aim is to release Zenith Icons pieces as capsule collections, bringing together references with a shared history, function, or theme. One of the first collections, available at Shanghai Nanjing West Road Boutique, will focus on some of the earliest and most iconic El Primero references from 1969 to 1972.
A384
The A384 made its debut in 1969 as the face of the El Primero that figured on launch press cuttings and on the cover of the first El Primero brochures. It stands out with its “square barrel” case signed with the Zenith 4-pointed star logo and its “panda” dial – which has turned tropical in this case, making it all the more desirable.
A385
One of the original trio of stainless steel references that launched alongside the El Primero calibre, the A385 is the model Zenith chose for its advertisements and photo-shoots in 1969. It left its mark on the era with its “shaded smoky brown” gradient dial, unprecedented at the time, and its “square barrel” case, signed with the Zenith 4-pointed star logo.
A386
What would become the template for Zenith’s signature Chronomaster line, the A386 was launched in 1969 in a more classical round-case with straight lugs variant of the first El Primero-equipped watch. It garnered attention for its unprecedented tri-colour chronograph counters and decimal scale, becoming one of the most significant references in the history of the El Primero calibre and an icon among chronograph wristwatches.
