The Latest Mazu 82 Yacht Has Bullet Proof Glass

Mazu Yachts delivers its latest and largest yacht the Mazu 82 to its new owner.

Since 2011 Turkish Based Mazu Yachts has been designing and producing Open and Hard-Top Motor Yachts and Super Yacht Tenders at their state of the art 3000 sq.m indoor and 1000 sq.m outdoor facility.

The boatyard typically produces just 10 boats a year due to the fact each vessel is bespoke. Mazu Yachts say they spend a tremendous amount of time getting to know customers, their needs and lifestyles on each and every project commissioned.

No surprise then that Mazu is proud to deliver their latest 82ft flagship, the Mazu 82, to its discerning owner.

Powered by three Volvo Penta IPS units (1,000hp each) and built of a carbon composite in a lightweight sandwich construction for maximum rigidity and strength, the deep-V hull achieves a top speed of 40 knots at full load and a cruising speed of 35 knots.

“The hull lines of the new Mazu 82 were designed in-house to provide a perfect balance between top speed, seakeeping capability and fuel efficiency,” says Halit Yukay, lead designer and CEO of Mazu Yachts. “At cruising speed the yacht burns around 600 litres of fuel per hour for a range of just under 400 nautical miles or around 12 hours cruising.”

At 24.5 meters long the Mazu 82 offers a lot more volume than the yard’s previous 62-foot flagship. Logistically this was not an issue because the shipyard is able to build up to 30 metres and Yukay maintains that building smaller yachts is actually harder because of the lack of space onboard the vessel, slowing down production as fewer people can work at any one time. Another advantage with producing the lager yachts is that there is much more free-standing furniture on board, custom designed for the latest project by celebrated designer Tanju Özelgin, the first time Mazu has worked with an independent stylist.

The exterior profile of the Mazu 82 is characterized by the flush main deck with no steps and the angular lines of the all-glass deckhouse. Wherever possible the shipyard used one-piece glass panes, which meant increasing their thickness.

The tempered and laminated windshield is over 22mm thick and with a PVB interlayer is literally bulletproof. The glass is also extra clear to eliminate distortion and reflections. Three openable ‘portholes’ at the front of the superstructure provide natural ventilation while underway along with the sliding aluminium roof, custom-made by OPAC in Italy.

On special request of the owner, Mazu Yachts modified the aft deck design to include terraced steps leading down to the swim platform. These steps function as built-in furniture so guests can sit down and still converse with other people, and additionally wide enough to also lie down and sunbathe on.

“Multifunctional design was very important for the owner,” says Yukay. “In fact, the open foredeck has three different uses: as a sunbathing area, a dining area for 12 people, and a screen can be set up to turn it into an open-air cinema.”

The proud owner is said to be delighted with his new acquisition and is spending most of his time onboard. Given the current Covid crisis, he is also planning to use his yacht as a floating office well into the winter season.

Conor McGregor Orders Special Edition #12 “Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63” Yacht

Conor McGregor has been shopping for the family and placed an order for the new “Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63” super sports motor yacht released by The Italian Sea Group.

Inspired by the hybrid Lamborghini Siàn FKP 37, the $3.5 million “Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63” has the same sporty lines as the futuristic supercar and references the year of Lamborghini’s beginnings – 1963.

Taking the family to the Italian Sea Group headquarters, Conor McGregor was taken through the Ad Personam Program before placing an order for the “McGregor Edition #12”.

With the number 12 holding special significance to Conor McGregor (his whisky brand Proper No. Twelve pays homage to his hometown neighborhood of Crumlin, Dublin 12), McGregor specifically requested the 12th build of the 63 models that will be built in total.

In McGregor’s words ““The No.12 “McGregor edition” @tecnomaryachts @lamborghini. Lamborghini’s first entry into the Sport Yacht World comes in the form of this 63foot, 4000bhp, duel engine, twin-turbo, rocket ship! Titled the “Supercar of the Sea” I am honored to secure the Number 12 edition of just 63 to be made. 1963 being the year Lamborghini first began, and 12 being, well you know Twelve! Proper F***ing Twelve baby!”

Blending the yachting and sports car worlds together, the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63″ originally started as a joint design analysis between Tecnomar and Lamborghini Style Center and shares the same Lamborghini style steering wheel with its iconic fighter jet style “start” button, and a signature Lamborghini “racing style” seat for the captain.

Sporting two MAN V12-2000HP engines for a total 4000CV, the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 motor yacht can reach 60 knots of speed and will be the fastest boat in the Tecnomar fleet of The Italian Sea Group.

Echo Yachts x Misha Merzliakov Unveil New Customizable SP30 Catamaran Concept

In collaboration with Misha Merzliakov Yacht Design, Australian superyacht builder Echo Yachts have unveiled the SP30 concept, a fully customizable 101ft catamaran.

A year ago, Australian superyacht builder Echo Yachts and yacht designer Misha Merzliakov revealed a new range of fast 27-meter catamaran motor yachts and shadow vessels.

Now coinciding with this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), Echo Yachts and Misha Merzliakov Yacht Design (MMYD) have once again collaborated to reveal an even larger 31m catamaran concept known as the “SP30”.

Echo Yachts, who have already won several prizes for build’s like their 84m M/Y White Rabbit Trimaran, are Australia’s largest builder of custom superyachts and yacht support vessels. They originally first reached out to Misha Merzliakov Yacht Design to design a 45m catamaran for a confidential client.

Impressed with the results, Echo Yachts enlisted Misha to create a range of 27m catamarans for their “Design Collection” and decided to follow up on the back of the two previous successful projects with the 31m “SP30” Catamaran.

“With this latest project I was given ‘carte blanche.’ It was a case of do whatever you like and I thought, Wow, let’s do a catamaran that looks very cool and slender”, shared Misha Merzliakov. “When I say slender though, you have to have a bit of restraint because there’s the temptation to pack it full of things just because you can do that with a catamaran, whereas I wanted to show some restraint and make it look sexier. Think sports car, supercar and hypercar; there’s a lot of lines in there that you’ll go ‘ok it looks like it means business.'”

When considering the initial concept for the SP30 Catamaran, Misha Merzliakov was adamant the layout be kept simple and functional, ensuring it would be possible to keep crewing requirements to a minimum and operational costs minimized for the owners regardless of the layout.

While intended to be foremost functional, the SP30 Catamaran is also designed to be fully customizable, allowing owners the flexibility of a layout to best suit their use of the vessel. This could range from a weekend entertainer configured with wide-open spaces for hosting guests onboard, through to an explorer catamaran requiring more storage space and crew accommodation.

“The entertainer layout is designed with more open spaces for larger groups of people,” explains Misha Merzliakov. “Rather than a small intimate group, you’re catering for groups of people in the lounge, guests gathering through the main deck and standing up near the bar, including a few more over at the dining table. Guest numbers can swell quickly and it could easily cater for that.”

“For exploration use, I would probably change the layout because it’s more likely going to be used by a smaller group (even only just the owner sometimes) and they’re going for longer journeys so there is more emphasis on storage. An explorer client might need more workspace or an office space. The cabins also could take on a different persona, especially with explorers, because the crew tends to be with you longer. Regarding the galley side of things, you would consider increasing the refrigeration and freezers capacity. The catamaran can be built fit for purpose, it can go either way.”

In terms of exterior design, Misha experimented with four different profile designs before settling on a reverse bow profile for the SP30 Catamaran. Featuring a masculine automotive-inspired exterior, the reverse bow gives a sleek profile appearance and maximizes the waterline length for optimal performance.

Internally, the catamarans wide 13.3m beam is more closely associated with superyachts in the 60m+ range, allowing for extremely spacious open living and dining areas, which designer Misha Merzliakov has enhanced through the deliberate use of a casual yet elegant interior.

Placing a specific emphasis on the above deck areas for living and entertaining, Misha Merzliakov’s signature use of clever ambient lighting creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the living areas as guests experience the transition of day into night aboard the yacht.

Created with an expansive aft deck, the SP30 Catamaran also allows for a range of water toys, including two jet skis and an Extender EXT640 6.4m IDRO tender to be stored aboard. A hydraulically lowering swim platform located on the centerline also doubles to effortlessly launch and retrieve the tender and provide guests with safe access to the water for swimming, diving, and other water sport activities.

When asked about his favorite feature of the SP30 design, Misha shared, “I like the look of the distant profile and exterior of this catamaran on the horizon. If I judge that I’ve done the right thing with a design, then I look forward to seeing it skating along the horizon. The irony is it’s a very small object in the landscape from a photo composition point of view, yet it still captures your attention.”

Swedish J Craft’s New Torpedo Boat: M/Y Acheron

Each J Craft Torpedo heritage boat takes over 8000 hours to hand-build and now the latest design has been revealed as the elegant M/Y Acheron.

For over 20 years, Swedish-based J Craft has created some of the world’s most beautifully crafted classic wooden boats and have now revealed their latest hand-built Torpedo model, the 42′ M/Y Acheron.

Described as a “runabout fit for a king, with the style of Brigitte Bardot and the technological sophistication of James Bond,” J Craft’s latest Torpedo features a rich lacquered wood exterior with contrasting white leather upholstery. It is also the first Torpedo to boast the new generation twin Volvo Punta IPS 650 engines, marking the introduction of the first-ever Torpedo RS.

Built on Sweden’s island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, J Craft draws on the island’s strong seafaring heritage spanning over 1,000 years and leans on the presence of skilled artisans to construct robust, maneuverable boats like M/Y Acheron that can withstand the extreme elements of the far north.

A favorite amongst billionaires (they own 5 of the 26 J Craft’s built to date), the Torpedo’s are equipped with the most up-to-date technology, but design-wise harken back to the stylish wooden boats of the 50’s and 60’s, each built by hand and requiring over 8000 work hours each to complete over approximately one year.

With a range of 350 nautical miles (648 kilometers) and a top speed of 50 knots (90 km/h), the J Craft Torpedo is designed to handle the high-seas and rough conditions of Europe’s northernmost waters and is just as much at home bracing the Baltic seas during extensive sea-trials as it is on the lakes and inshore waters of the Hamptons or cruising the coastal waters of the Amalfi coast.

It is also said to be one of the most stable boats on the market, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride for passengers. Much of this can be attributed to the Volvo IPS drives. Designed in conjunction with the Torpedo, the pod-mounted, forward-facing propellers can move through 360 degrees, making cornering easy, safe, and comfortable.

At low speed, when maneuvering in tighter spaces, the Torpedo is controlled by the IPS joystick, allowing the boat to move backwards, forwards, sideways, and even turn in its own length, all with delicate, finger-tip control.

In terms of entertaining, M/Y Acheron is well equipped with a fridge, ice-maker, sink, and induction hob while below deck, an internal lounge area, wet room, and sleeping quarters for four guests + the captain means guests can stay overnight in comfort.

As bespoke builds with no two J Craft’s the same, the options are almost limitless when it comes to designing a new boat, whether it be adding an extended Bimini over the aft for more shade over the sunpad, an additional sprayhood and full cabrio for bad weather or opting for the cutlery package designed by His Majesty Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte of Sweden himself.

For those looking to order their own J Craft Torpedo boat, prices start at €1.2 million (depending on customization requests), although J Craft have revealed their order book is already filled for 2021, so you might have to put your “la dolce vita” plans on hold for at least another year or so until you can call one your own.
